Breed Improvement | Artificial Insemination

There are so many advantages to Artificial Insemination as compared to the natural because by using AI more and more goats can be inseminated with a lesser number of good quality breeding bucks. The Pregnancy Rate (PR) of naturally mated and AI goats were 93% and 70% respectively taken as the highest PR. The fresh diluted semen from one buck can inseminate 15-20 goats and by a frozen technique, it can inseminate 25-30 goats. Apart from this, the biggest advantage of AI technology is that those diseases related to Goat’s genital (venereal) can be prevented which can affect hygienic breeding. The investigation of disease in bucks is done before it is brought into use which is not possible in natural breeding. With the semen protection technique, frozen semen can be kept safe for a long time and the best Germplasm can be easily exchanged from one state/country to another state/country in the form of frozen semen. Artificial Insemination and semen conservation techniques and their successful implementation are associated with several sequential steps. Each sequence is important as below:

b. Semen collection & testing

c. Semen preservation

d. Heat detection in goats & Artificial Insemination in Goats at the right time

e. Good management during the pregnancy period

Artificial Insemination has been done by the TGT Group of Organizations technical wing along with field workers at the grassroots level for the last 7 to 8 years. At present, more than 1000 youths have been trained in Goat Artificial Insemination, and are providing services to the goat-rearing communities along with their own income. According to a recent study done by us, the percentage of success PR at the field level recorded around 60 to 70 percent. In this continuation, TGT Group of Organization signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Science University & Cattle Research Institute (DUVASU), Mathura for the production & supply of quality Frozen Semen of different Indian Breeds and a joint module for the capacity building of AI Workers and their certification.
